Hypnotherapy is a powerful tool which can help

About Hypnosis

At its heart, hypnosis is a state of deep relaxation together with a heightened focus.  It’s a state we naturally enter many times throughout the day.  It's the absorption of a good film.  It's arriving somewhere and realising you've no memory of the journey.  It's that loose, drifting few minutes before you fall asleep. You stay aware throughout, remain in control and able to respond to anything that might need your attention.  It's said all hypnosis is self-hypnosis.

What's happening underneath

Breaking old thought patterns can be a real challenge, especially when your unconscious tries to remind you of automatic responses and beliefs formed long ago.  Its job is to keep you steady and predictable, running on what’s worked before.  It's here that the body's alarm system sits, the one that learned at some point that it needed to stay alert and never quite got the message that it can stand down.  That’s why insight alone so often isn't enough, leaving us feeling like we’re trying to steer from the passenger seat.

By working with your unconscious we can create new ways of thinking, feeling and being.  That’s not by pushing past that alarm system, but by understanding what it's been trying to look after and the reasons it’s been working so hard.  Building up new comfort zones that your mind and body can adapt to.

How we'll work

Hypnosis can stand on its own or sit alongside other therapeutic approaches. Drawing on my psychotherapeutic training, I'll bring in whatever's useful as we go - that could be Parts work (I'm IFS-informed), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, and NLP, to help you create the changes you want.

We go at your pace and you stay in charge of what we approach and when and you needn't talk about anything you're not ready to.

Sessions are built around you, using imagery and metaphor drawn from your own world, and from whatever you bring to session.

Getting started

I offer all prospective clients a free 20 minute discovery call, either on the phone or via Zoom.  It’s a chance to ask any questions you may have, and hear a little more about how I work so you can get a sense of whether I’m a good fit for you.
